C.A.M.P. stands for the Circus And Magic Partnership - a series of social circus arts programs for needy youth. The Winnipeg International Children's Festival started this program back in 1997 as a means to use the arts to connect with underserved youth in the community. The program has expanded since that point to include the following:
A one week circus camp held at Gordon Bell High School during the March school break. 250 kids aged 10 - 14 are selected by their school guidance counsellors to participate at no cost - all meals and transportation are provided by our organization. Professional artist/Instructors are brought in from throughout North America to perform, teach and inspire! Youth participants get to choose from lots of unique activities and decide which they want to focus on and then perform live on stage at the end of the week for their family and friends! Skills include: Swinging Trapeze; Aerial Silks; Aerial Hoop; Tight Wire Walking; Acrobatics; Masters of Ceremonies; Clowing; Stilt-Walking; Magic & Illusion; Marionettes; Unicycling; Rola Bola;j Diabolo, Yo-Yo Tricks; Breakdancing; Costume-Making & Group Percussion for the C.A.M.P. band!
The WICF fundraises and solicits financial support to make this program happen at no cost each year so that C.A.M.P. kids can have the best spring break ever!
A four day circus camp held at a different remote Northern Manitoba town each year. 400 kids are able to participate - half from the host community and the other half from neighbouring communities. For this program, the majority of the materials are left for the kids to continue their instruction after the program is over. Our C.A.M.P. artist/instructors spend one full day working with teachers, educators and community leaders instructing them in basic safe circus teaching techniques and maintenance of the equipment.
The same skills are offered at this C.A.M.P. as the Winnipeg based project.
Since the inception of the Northern C.A.M.P. in 2001 the program has been hosted in 13 different communities and provided a once-in-a-lifetime experience for over 4000 kids in Northern Manitoba!
A one week circus camp held at The Forks during the second week of July.
2013 was the first year for this summer day camp and based on the popularity we're making it an annual event. This C.A.M.P. program is open to everybody! Be sure to register early, however, as last year's summer circus camp sold right out!
